Ikarus Stage Arts –Nordisk Teaterlaboratorium (NTL) in collaboration with the National Theatre of Greenland

From the last week of August until the beginning of October, Ikarus Stage Arts members travelled to Greenland to take part in a collaboration project between Nordisk Teaterlaboratorium (NTL) and the National Theater of Greenland .

This encountered involved the facilitation of an artistic workshop for acting students, and the participation in Kiinnat Festival, with the realization of cultural exchanges between the local community and artists.

WORKSHOP

The members of Ikarus Stage Arts shared scenic tools and training with the students of the National Theater.

The participants layered physical and vocal sequences with their own proposed stories. After that, they explored with scenic objects and created individual scenes.

The workshop ended with an open presentation.

Kiinnat Festival

This festival was created by the National Theatre of Greenland partly as a response to Covid19. As the pandemic made it impossible to make the festival in Nuuk, it was decided to divide Ikarus Stage Arts in two teams, to travel to the local communities.

Both teams used a similar structure of activities that focused on facilitating workshops, as well as inviting them to share their own interests.

The quantity of inhabitants of each place visited varied from 4.500 to a few hundreds, or even just 45 in the smallest village.

As a closure, the two teams mixed again and made a final parade in the main streets of Nuuk, short performances for the workers of the local town hall and for the inmates at the local prison.

West Team

The West Team met with the communities and visited local schools and nursing homes.

Activities:

  • Parades
  • Ghost Stories Night led by local artists
  • Open Jam
  • Dance, rhythm and Tai Chi workshops.

The final performance was mixed with the participation of locals that sang, played instruments, rapped, and danced and some drawings of the children that were always around that were used to decorate the venue.
